Field-wide survey collects crucial data on microenterprise field

MicroTest is currently working with the Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO) and state microenterprise associations to conduct the first field-wide survey since 2002. Data collected from the survey will allow advocates to speak more definitively about the current state of the U.S. microenterprise field. Survey results also will be used to create program profiles that will be featured in a new directory of microenterprise programs. We hope to gather information from an estimated 500 U.S. microenterprise organizations. What kind of data might the profiles contain?

With MicroTest entering its 11th year of data collection, we believe this is the right time to re-examine what we’ve been offering – with an eye toward developing new and better products and services for the domestic microenterprise industry. So we kicked-off a strategic planning effort in December 2008 (funded by Rabobank) and involving practitioners, intermediaries, funders, investors and supporters of microenterprise. That meeting was just the beginning of a process that will continue throughout 2009. And we hope you’ll be part of the discussion.
